Mayor Adams plows ahead with plan to privatize health benefits for 250,000 NYC municipal retirees

https://gothamist.com/news/mayor-adams-plows-ahead-with-plan-to-privatize-health-benefits-for-250000-nyc-municipal-retirees New York City Mayor Eric Adams is showing no signs of stopping an already-delayed plan to switch 250,000 retired municipal workers from traditional Medicare to a private Medicare Advantage plan – with or without the cooperation of the City Council or the support of retirees themselves. The city has proposed allowing retirees to keep their current benefits for a large fee ($191 per month), but the way things are going, that may not end up being an option. This proposed switch was supposed to take effect a year ago in January 2022 — but has faced stiff opposition. Meanwhile, some of those critics are urging the city to establish a panel of stakeholders to come up with alternative ways to achieve the $600 million savings that this Medicare Advantage switch is supposed to deliver. Uniformed Superior Officers Coalition Reached Tentative Agreement

December 19, 2019 NO ZEROS – NO GIVE BACKS 36 month term including raises of 2.25%, 2.5% and 3% respectfully  (7.95% compounded) and retroactive pay. Based on some additional planned OLR negotiations in the coming weeks, an additional 2.25% is likely (possible totals up to 10.25%) Other possible enhancements to our deal may also be possible (self funded). As you all know, our last contract expired on December 31st 2018 and we’ve been working without a contract for about a year now! We would like to thank everyone for your patience and faith in our leadership.  We could not succeed without your much appreciated support and faith in our ability.  Our number one goal is to deliver a complete package giving our Chief’s the deal we deserve! Mayor de Blasio and Teamsters Local 237 Announce Tentative Contract Agreement, Implementing New Work Rules and Providing a Fair Wage to More Than 5,000 NYCHA Employees

December 12, 2018 Work rule changes are first in approximately 50 years and expand work hours, including weekends, to provide more efficient and effective services to its residents NEW YORK––Building on the Mayor’s commitment to continue improving the New York City Housing Authority and providing a fair contract to its employees, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Greg Floyd, President of Teamsters Local 237, today announced that the City of New York has reached a tentative contract agreement with Teamsters Local 237. The 43-month agreement adds new work schedules for Caretakers and Supervisors for the first time in approximately 50 years. Since the 1960’s, the only schedule for these employees has been Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Under this agreement, there are now five possible schedules covering early mornings, beginning at 6:00 AM, and evenings until 7:00 PM, including Saturdays and Sundays.
