December 19, 2019 NO ZEROS – NO GIVE BACKS 36 month term including raises of 2.25%, 2.5% and 3% respectfully (7.95% compounded) and retroactive pay. Based on some additional planned OLR negotiations in the coming weeks, an additional 2.25% is likely (possible totals up to 10.25%) Other possible enhancements to our deal may also be possible (self funded). As you all know, our last contract expired on December 31st 2018 and we’ve been working without a contract for about a year now! We would like to thank everyone for your patience and faith in our leadership. We could not succeed without your much appreciated support and faith in our ability. ALBANY – The Supreme Court ruling Wednesday June, 27th that unions cannot collect fees from non-members could have wide implications across New York, which has the nation’s most heavily unionized public sector. Unions in New York derided the groundbreaking decision by the closely divided Supreme Court as it may weaken their membership, but business groups and union critics applauded the measure. The decision applied to the legality of “agency fees” that public employees were required to pay, even if they choose not to be a member of a union. New York’s labor leaders said they will work hard to encourage public workers to continue to pay all fees and dues. New York has the highest percentage of union workers in the nation. Gov. APRIL 12, 2018 Albany, NY Governor Cuomo Signs Legislation to Protect the Rights of New York’s Working Men and Women Bill Increases Access to and Protects Union Membership in New York State Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today signed landmark legislation to strengthen the rights of working men and women in New York State. This new law increases access to and protects union membership in New York’s public-sector workplaces in anticipation of an adverse ruling in the pending Supreme Court case Janus v. AFSCME. Second Health Savings Agreement (FY 2019 to FY 2021) On June 26, 2018, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a second health savings agreement with the Municipal Labor Committee (MLC) covering the fiscal period 2019 to 2021 which builds on the first savings agreement of fiscal year 2015 to 2018. The key features of the new savings agreement are as follows: A commitment to generate cumulative healthcare savings of $1.1 billion over a 3-year period (fiscal year 2019 to 2021) of which $600 million will recur annually beyond FY’2021. December 12, 2018 Work rule changes are first in approximately 50 years and expand work hours, including weekends, to provide more efficient and effective services to its residents NEW YORK––Building on the Mayor’s commitment to continue improving the New York City Housing Authority and providing a fair contract to its employees, Mayor Bill de Blasio and Greg Floyd, President of Teamsters Local 237, today announced that the City of New York has reached a tentative contract agreement with Teamsters Local 237. The 43-month agreement adds new work schedules for Caretakers and Supervisors for the first time in approximately 50 years. Since the 1960’s, the only schedule for these employees has been Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Under this agreement, there are now five possible schedules covering early mornings, beginning at 6:00 AM, and evenings until 7:00 PM, including Saturdays and Sundays.
